How We’re Reducing Our Footprint

Our approach focuses on practical initiatives that improve freight efficiency and reduce environmental impact across North America. That includes moving more than 60% of freight by rail, operating as a SmartWay Transport Partner, using anti-idling equipment and GPS-enabled fleet monitoring, and improving energy efficiency across our facilities.

Our sustainability efforts are embedded in day-to-day operations through intermodal transportation, fleet optimization, emissions tracking, facility improvements, and waste reduction programs.

Intermodal Efficiency

More than 60% of our freight moves by rail through our intermodal network, helping reduce highway miles and lower emissions compared to over-the-road transportation. As a SmartWay Transport Partner, we also support freight-efficiency initiatives that reduce fuel consumption, greenhouse gases, and other air emissions across the supply chain.

Fleet & Equipment Optimization

We use anti-idling equipment, no-idle policies, GPS units across 1,500 trucks, route optimization, trailer skirts, cab extenders, fuel tank skirts, and super single tires to improve fuel efficiency, reduce unnecessary engine runtime, lower emissions, and support more efficient fleet operations.

Facilities, Reporting & Waste Reduction

Our sustainability initiatives include a LEED-certified head office, LED lighting across offices and warehouses, electric forklifts across most terminals, carbon footprint reporting for customers, tire retread and recycling programs, battery recycling, office recycling, and regulated disposal of hazardous waste.
